VILLAGE CHARTER SCHOOL YEAR END CARNIVAL

Get up on stage... Share experiences... Win prizes...

Come celebrate the end of a great school year and the beginning of summer!

Friday, June 7, 2019

Here's just a sampling of all the fabulous reasons to spend this afternoon with your Village:

FOOD: Yummy BBQ, sno-cones, pop corn & sweets at our cake walk

GAMES: Go Fish, Bean Bag Toss, Spin the Wheel, Twister, sack race, leg tie race

AND MORE: photo booth, dunk tank bucket, pony rides, sheep petting, volleyball games & the "Moonracker " rides

1. We need LOTS OF LITTLE PRIZES.  Do you have party favors laying around (cluttering up your home? :-).  We'll take them off your hands and put them to good (recycled) use.  We're definitely not asking folks to purchase new ones, we're confident we can collect plenty for our carnival games just from re-using what families can gather around their homes.  Just toss 'em in a bag and drop 'em in the office NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, JUNE 4th.

2.  On the yummy side of things, WE NEED ITEMS FOR OUR CAKE WALK (everything sweet to eat is welcome--homemade or store bought, sugar-full, sugar-free, gluten-full, gluten-free, etc.).  The more the (much) merrier! Baked goods can be delivered anytime on Thursday, June 7, including just bringing it along when you arrive at the carnival.

3. AFTERCARE KIDDOS:  If you will be unable to attend the carnival, but your child will be in aftercare, they don't have to miss all the fun.   You will have an opportunity to pre purchase tickets that will be distributed on the day of the event when students are dismissed from aftercare to participate. More info to come.

3.  Last, but certainly not least, we are asking for volunteers for setup and cleanup, AND that EACH PARENT that's able to attend SIGN-UP FOR ONE 30-MINUTE SHIFT to actually make the fun happen!

Please click on the following web link (or copy it into your web browser if clicking doesn't work) to go to the signup sheet. To sign up, just follow the instructions on the page. It only takes a few seconds to do.

Thank you for volunteering!

SCHOOLYARD HABITAT

We set some lofty goals at the beginning of the school year and by working together we accomplished almost all of what we set out to do! We created our schoolyard habitat complete with a lizard lounge/rock garden, wetland, living tee-pee, butterfly/bee forage with over 30 kinds of native plants throughout our newly created space. Our Fall and Spring workdays were hugely successful, full of fun times built around working hard to improve our school and our Earth. Woodshop middle school students built us 6 bird nest boxes. Ashley’s class put up the boxes and have been weekly monitoring the bird life that has taken up residence.

We’d like to thank all Village School teachers/classes and the many families who came to the work parties for being a major force in planting out the space and working to battle the weeds and dreaded Bermuda grass. Our project will stay well-watered this summer (and beyond) thanks to Josh Landis working his irrigation wizardry! Deep gratitude to the original team who made this project possible by applying for and receiving the grant to fund the project (Crisarlin and Hattie). Huge appreciations to the Nunley family/DryScape Materials and their generous donations of landscaping materials that helped our project come to life.

This year has seen a VCS dream come true and this is well deserving of our collective celebration and congratulations! Please look forward to another set of Fall and Spring workdays next school year so we can keep our dream alive. We also look forward to working with all the classes again next year, learning together about ourselves and our world by observing, tending and enjoying our thriving Schoolyard Habitat!

Your Happy Habitat Co-ordinators,

Hattie and Stephanie

Thank You - Yearbook Team

I have huge appreciation for the yearbook team: Avery, Kai, Thomas, Sarai, Ella, Bella, and Nate. You made an incredible yearbook, and you made so many great memories along the way. Dizzy drawing, arguing over control of the music, drum towers, waffles, the eternal debate over what to call yourselves on the staff page... So many jokes, so much fun, all poignantly enriched by Ella crying the whole time, and resulting in a beautiful yearbook which our community will treasure. I'm really, really proud of you goofballs.

Much love and admiration for you all!

Emma

I want to echo the sentiments regarding the incredible gifts our Parents Association provided last week.  After years on the parent side, I experienced my first Staff Appreciation week.  We’re so blessed to have a supportive parent body year-round, but I can not express how wonderful it was to be showered with so much love and attention and a full week of special delights.  It was just the boost I needed to push me through this (glorious) time of spring fever to the end of our school year! ~ Ashley Hamlett
