IMAGINE ... a school where your child is happy and benefiting from:

A small school environment with a rich multi-cultural curriculum honoring the whole child
Academics taught in a meaningful, whole world and nature-based context
Intimate multi-age classes where the values of community-building and social responsibility are taught and practiced
A lively calendar of diverse cultural celebrations
A school program and community that thrive on parent participation and choice
Teachers who teach from the heart
A joyful, caring aftercare program

Festivals and Community

A rich and lively calendar of diverse seasonal and cultural festivals enriches the program at VCS and provides an opportunity for the whole Village community to come together in joyous celebration.   Festivals integrate the curriculum and include planning and participation by the entire school community - students, teachers and parents.   Festivals include potluck feasts and performances by the children, including singing, dancing, and often a play or recitation. The excitement and community feeling generated by these festivals bonds us all closer together.

Festivals vary somewhat each year, depending on VCS families and curriculum.

Our year often includes events honoring:

  • Indigenous People's Day (October)
  • Harvest Festival (October)
  • Dia de Los Muertos (beginning of November)
  • Festival of Lights/Winter Solstice (December)
  • Martin Luther King Jr. (January)
  • Cesar Chavez (February)
  • Wise & Noble (March/April)
  • May Festival (May)
  • End of Year Celebration
